What We Do

Voter registration (or enrollment) is the requirement that a person otherwise eligible to vote register before they will be entitled or permitted to vote. Such enrollment may be automatic or may require application being made by the eligible voter. As of October 2018, there were 536,935 registered voters in DeKalb County, Georgia. Lets Vote DeKalb is dedicated to registering every qualified voter in DeKalb County to ensure their participation in the political process. Through visiting local schools, door-to-door canvasing, church events, digital and Online initiatives, and community events, we will ensure mass voter registration.

Historically in the United States, the southern states of the former Confederacy passed laws at the turn of the century that created barriers to voter registration, such as poll taxes, literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and complicated record keeping requirements. In practice, in their system of Jim Crow, these elements were used to disenfranchise most African Americans and many poor whites from voting, excluding thousands of people in each state from the political system. Today, voter disenfranchisement remains an issue across the United States and Let's Vote DeKalb is here to ensure every voter has the ability to exercise their inherent right to vote.
